PROVERBS 29 (KING JAMES VERSION)

PROVERBS 29   (KJV)

   1) He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck,
shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

   2) When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice:
but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

   3) Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father:
but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance.

   4) The king by judgment establisheth the land:
but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.

   5) A man that flattereth his neighbour
spreadeth a net for his feet.

   6) In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare:
but the righteous doth sing and rejoice.

   7) The righteous considereth the cause of the poor:
but the wicked regardeth not to know it.

   8) Scornful men bring a city into a snare:
but wise men turn away wrath.

   9) If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man,
whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.

   10) The bloodthirsty hate the upright:
but the Just seek his soul.

   11) A fool uttereth all his mind:
but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.

   12) If a ruler hearken to lies,
     all his servants are wicked.

   13) The poor and the deceitful man meet together:
the LORD lighteneth both their eyes.

   14) The king that faithfully judgeth the poor,
his throne shall be established for ever.

   15) The rod and reproof give wisdom:
but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.

   16) When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth:
but the righteous shall see their fall.

   17) Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest;
yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.

   18) Where there is no vision, the people perish:
but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

   19)  A servant will not be corrected by words:
for though he understand he will not answer.

   20) Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words?
there is more hope of a fool than of him.

   21) He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child
shall have him become his son at the length.

   22) An angry man stirreth up strife,
and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.

   23) A man's pride shall bring him low:
but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.

   24) Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul:
he heareth cursing, and bewrayeth it not.

   25) The fear of man bringeth a snare:
but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.

   26) Many seek the ruler's favour;
but every man's judgment cometh from the LORD.

   27) An unjust man is an abomination to the Just:
and he that is upright in The Way is abomination to the wicked.

DEFINITIONS
bewray (according to wiktionary):  to reveal, divulge, or make something known:  to disclose

COMMENTARY

Verse 1 speaks of the abundance of times one is advised that their ways are not in line with the will of God; that they are living outside the will of God, and their ways will be their ruin.  However, they go on in their sin, probably saying they would rather party with the wicked than live like the righteous.  Not everyone loves obedience and structure.

Verse 2 pretty much speaks for itself:  when you are ruled by convicts (or anyone who is not just and fair), you really don't expect to be treated just.

Verse 4) Integrity.  Integrity is a word that we should be able to apply to our government.  Can you apply it to our government?  There should be no politician who accepts bribes.  But woe!  Can you name any politician whether local or federal who will not take a bribe?

Verse 9)  I would like to say what the commentary says, "A wise man attempting to get a point across to a fool may try anger, sarcasm, and mockery, but not even these approaches will have the desired effect.  IT IS EASIER TO STORM A STRONG CITY THAN TO PENETRATE THE MINDSET OF A FOOL."  That is verified.

Verse 18) Where there is no vision:  preaching or sharing The Word of God.  This "vision" comes from the "seers" of the Old Testament, who were the prophets.  So if the people do not hear The Word or understand The Word, they surely don't obey The Law in The Word.  Through The Word comes grace, faith, love, salvation, etc.  When people know nothing of these, or when they are fed false doctrine; when they don't know Christ, they don't know pardon from sin, righteousness, peace, and hope for eternal life.  They simply perish.

Verse 24) This verse speaks of shining light on sin.  If you run with thieves and get saved, you can no longer run with thieves.  If you know about what they do, you must not keep quiet, but must bring the sin to light, especially to the sinner.

Where are you going to spend eternity?  Now is the time to consider such a monumental question.  I invite you to spend it in Heaven; but to do so, you must accept the gift of salvation Jesus has reserved for you.  To learn more, visit our "Pathways to Salvation" page for more information by clicking here:   https://omaswisdom.blogspot.com/p/path-to-salvation.html.

  1. So this reminds me of a thought that I had earlier. I am a bit timid when it comes to spreading the Gospel to people I do not know in a public setting. Then a revelation came: You are spreading "The Gospel" every time that we compliment someone. "Great Job", "Hey You look nice today", "I appreciate you". This is a show of Love. God is Love. So God someone today.
