DEFINITIONS
Verse 1) Good parents pour ourselves into raising our children to fear The LORD. When they rebel, listen to their friends, and chase after worldly pleasure, it hurts our hearts. My Mama says that "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink." My Holy Bible says that if you raise your children in the ways of The LORD, even if they stray, they will return to Him. Let me assure you, there is no reason to beat yourself up; there is no reason to lapse into depression. God does not leave you; His arms are not so short that He cannot save our children. Let God deal with them. In His own time, after the proper trials and tribulations, they will return to Him. Our job is to raise them loving God.
Verse 2) Let's talk profit and loss for a minute. Judas is a prime example of loss. The wicked pursue that which is temporal. His profit gained by evil means resulted in the loss of his very life. On the other hand, the Apostle Peter was about as far down in the toilet as anyone can get after he realized he had denied Jesus for the third time before the rooster crowed. However, Jesus had prayed for him, so no matter how bleak things looked to him, he would not be lost. His righteousness delivered him from death and he went on to become the chief spokesman of the infant church. The John Phillip's Commentary Series states it this way: "Peter was guilty of weakness, not wickedness."
Verse 3) Here we have a contrast between a righteous man's soul and a wicked man's substance. No one has ever brought a trailer filled with their worldly goods into heaven. Be not deceived: What is important in this life is our soul, not our substance. I would rather be Lazaurus, the beggar than the rich man who God did not know his name.
The definition of the word "froward" as defined on wiktionary.org:
disobedient, contrary, unmanageable; difficult to deal with; with an
evil disposition.
The definition of the word "prating" as defined on dictionary.cambridge.org: talking stupidly, or about things that are not important, for a long time.
To fear The LORD is to reverence Him.

Verses 6,7) Blessings are upon the head of the just: these blessings are bestowed by God. This is not only speaking of financial blessings, but spiritual blessings. Material wealth gained by legitimate means is good, but wealth gained by evil means is a snare. It is better to be poor than to face eternal damnation. Most everybody can make money but look to the condition of your heart as you do.
