PUT ON THE NEW MAN
COLOSSIANS 3: 1 - 14
2) Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3) For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
4) When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in glory
5) Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
6) For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
7) In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
8) But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
9) Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
10) And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of Him that created him:
11) Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
12) Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
13) Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
14) And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
COMMENTARY
1) When we give our lives to Christ and He takes our sin upon Himself (salvation), it is no longer our lives that we live, but Christ's. He was crucified for our sins and He rose on the third day. So, He is risen. He is now at the right hand of God the Father.
2) Since He is risen, we, also, are risen. This is no longer our home, but Heaven is our home. We are but passing through this world to our home. Therefore, the things of this world are of no value to us.
5) We are to mortify: put to death, restrain, subdue, subjugate, our mortal bodies concerning these unclean activities and grow our spiritual selves in Christ.
6,7) For disobedient people will face the wrath of God for these things, which we, too, were guilty of before our salvation.
8, 9) These behaviors have no place in the Kingdom of God, to which we belong.
10,11) And this is key to being transformed: "renewed in knowledge" which comes from studying The Word of God, the Holy Bible. When we study His Word, we grow in His likeness, no matter your background.
12-14) These are the "fruit of the spirit", which reveals your citizenship in the Kingdom of God.
Wouldn't you love to have your citizenship in Heaven? It comes with a relationship with Jesus and a cancellation of your debt. Click here for more information: https://omaswisdom.blogspot.com/p/path-to-salvation.html.
