REVELATION 15

REVELATION 15
SEVEN PLAGUES

   1) And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God.

   2) And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire:  and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.

   3) And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are Thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are Thy ways, Thou King of saints.

   4) Who shall not fear Thee, O Lord, and glorify Thy name?  for Thou only art holy:  for all nations shall come and worship before Thee; for Thy judgments are made manifest.

   5) And after that I looked, and, behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened:

   6) And the seven angels came out of the temple, having the seven plagues, clothed in pure and white linen, and having their breasts girded with golden girdles.

   7) And one of the four beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, Who liveth for ever and ever.

   8) And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from His power; and no man was to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled.  King James Version (KJV) Public Domain

COMMENTARY

The sea of glass represents all of the times God has delivered His people from evil:  when Moses led his people out of Egypt, when Noah was saved from destruction when God judged the world by water, and let us not overlook baptism.  The fire represents judgment.

Verse 5:  the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven is the place where the original 10 Commandments are, which were written by God Himself and given to Moses to instruct God's chosen people.  This is the law.  Those who deny Christ are living under the law.  However, go back in history to when Jesus was crucified, the vale was rent from top to bottom, (Matthew 27:51) opening the way for all who believe on Him to have full access to The Most High God.  Praise His Holy Name!  That is what John sees here:  the innermost area of the earthly tabernacle, the Holiest of all, was not accessible to the people or the priests....only to the high priest once a year.  Now, it is open to all who believe!  (Hebrews 10: 19 - 22)  Ah, but wait until verse 8.

And the angels came out of that heavenly temple clothed in pure and white linen, which speaks of righteousness.  The golden girdles speak of riches and beauty.  They emerged with the seven plagues; then one of the four beasts around the throne gives each angel a golden vial FULL of the wrath of God.  This time, God will hold nothing back; those who rejected our God will be hit with the full wrath of our holy and just God!

In verse 8, we see the "Shekinah" glory of God and His power filling the temple.  God's glory is at stake; His righteousness demands the punishment of iniquity.  He does not apologize for dealing thus with unrighteousness, nor do His servants need to apologize for Him.  Everyone who has heard the message of The Gospel should understand Who God is and what their future is without Him!  Who can withstand the full impact of God's wrath?  Who would elect to place themselves in that position?  I'll tell you "who":  those who reject salvation through the blood of Jesus, that's who!
