FALL DOWN AND WORSHIP DANIEL 3: 8 - 12

FALL DOWN AND WORSHIP   DANIEL: 3: 8 - 12 (NIV)

    (8) At this time some astrologers came forward and denounced the Jews.  (9) They said to King Nebuchadnezzar, "O king, live forever! (10) You have issued a decree, O king, that everyone who hears the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipes and all kinds of music must fall down and worship the image of gold, (11) and that whoever does not fall down and worship will be thrown into a blazing furnace.  (12) But there are some Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon--Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego--who pay no attention to you, O king.  They neither serve your gods nor worship the image of gold you have set up."  Daniel 3: 8-12 (NIV)

LIFE APPLICATION STUDY BIBLE COMMENTARY

We don't know if other Jews refused to fall down and worship the image, but these three were singled out as public examples.  Why didn't the three men just bow to the image and tell God that they didn't mean it?  They had determined NEVER to worship another god, and they courageously took their stand.  As a result, they were condemned and led away to be executed.  The men did not know whether they would be delivered from the fire; all they knew was that they would not fall down and worship an idol.  Are you ready to take a stand for God no matter what?  When you stand for God, you will stand out.  It may be painful, and it may not always have a happy ending.  Be prepared to say, "If He rescues me, or if He doesn't, I will serve only God."

MY THOUGHTS

It is written:  "You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.  You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments."  Deuteronomy 5: 7 - 10  Surely these Hebrew children had heard these teachings in the Synagogues before they were captured by the Babylonians.  What conviction!
It is also written that we are not to covet. Deuteronomy 5:21.  Those who do not know the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob may not be familiar with this command.  The children of The Living God should battle daily to keep it.  It is a condition of the heart that is not readily seen but is revealed by those who are guilty of it, none-the-less.
In these last days, I have prayed for the courage and wisdom, the conviction, to glorify my God by standing for Him.  "Everyone therefore who acknowledges Me before others, I also will acknowledge before My Father in heaven; but whoever denies Me before others, I also will deny before My Father in heaven."  Matthew 10: 31,33.
We will soon be required to take the "mark of the beast" or surely die.  Jesus said that "He who has the Son has life and will never die".  He said in Matthew 10: 28: "Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell."

Have you ever been curious about where the number 666 came from and how it became associated with Satan?  Here is what I have found at www.seanet.com.: " The Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar actually set up a golden statue of himself that was 60 cubits high and six cubits wide and demanded that his subjects worship it (Dan.3) when they heard six instruments playing. Therefore, the number 666 is here associated with the worship of man."
