TIME TO EXAMINE OUR RELATIONSHIPS

TIME TO EXAMINE OUR RELATIONSHIPS

Do you watch preachers on television?  I was watching Andy Stanley this morning on his program, Your Move.  The show was the second in a series he is teaching on:  Guardrails is the name of the series; part 2 is:  Why Can't We Be Friends.  You can connect with Andy at www.yourmove.is  and watch the shows.  Andy is the son of  Dr. Charles Stanley.
The message today really hit home.  Don't we all have friends or family members who are selfish?  It is always about them?
We all want the best for those we care about.  We call them on the phone, we spend time with them, we write letters to them, we do things for them, we encourage them, we give advise sometimes.  We invest of ourselves into their lives, expecting nothing in return.  That is what we do because we care about them.
Today, my eyes were opened to how they feel about us:  do they call on the phone, spend time with us, write letters to us, read and share our blogs, do things for us, encourage us, and sometimes give us advise; or is it always about them?
I am not saying that we should just care about those who give to us, but rather I am saying that it may be time to examine our relationships, and maybe put some distance between us if they are on a course that does not agree with ours. It is like being anchored to the shore and trying to drive off in a boat.  They may be what's holding us back from being who we should be.
I have always said, "You are who you hang out with."  Maybe it is time to apply that to my own life, that the pain may be lessened when the "fallout" comes from their actions.  If you watch the show, you will understand what I am talking about.
